DEWA launches “Smart Servic-

es for Smarter Tomorrow”

Umm Al Quwain economic

services in e-Dirham

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)

announced that it will be part of the Dubai Smart

Government stand at GITEX 2015, which will be

held from 18-22 October at the Dubai World Trade

Centre.

DEWAwill showcase its key technological achieve-

ments and latest smart services. At GITEX 2015,

DEWA will use state-of-the-art technologies to in-

form visitors about the latest smart services and

initiatives that affect everyday life. DEWA will do

this in an innovative and interactive way. It will also

showcase its key smart projects that support the

Smart Dubai initiative.

As part of its participation in GITEX 2015, DEWA

will launch the Smart Services for a Smarter To-

morrow campaign. It will offer customers the op-

portunity to win valuable prizes through daily

draws when they complete selected transactions

using DEWA’s smart app.

The Department of Economic Development in

Umm Al Quwain began applying the e-Dirham

system to issue new licenses and for all transac-

tions. This came after Umm Al Quwain govern-

ment signed an agreement to adopt the e-Dirham

system with the Ministry of Finance and National

Bank of Abu Dhabi last February.

The agreement stipulated that all government

departments in Umm Al Quwain will join the e-

Dirham system, thus enabling them to automate

fees collection for services offered to the public

and develop and facilitate payment methods and

switch from cash payment and collection to auto-

mated revenues collection. The National Bank of

Abu Dhabi will provide the departments with all the

equipment, programs and software needed to en-

able them to use the e-Dirham system.

University of Dubai gives access to smart

services

The University of Dubai (UD) launched

the Dubai Smart View Portal, a unique

portal that gives easy access to Dubai

smart government services.

IT students at UD developed the por-

tal as part of their graduate project. It

took them an entire year of research

and work to develop the portal.

To facilitate the use of the portal, the

project will include the “smart board”

to enable users to benefit from the

mobile apps to obtain such services.

This Smart Board will be put up at

multiple places around the city such

as bus stops, metro stations and

government departments.

The project required much research

to be conducted in order to identify

the advantages of technology use.

The aim of the project is to enable

a smarter perspective of e-services,

by providing quick and convenient

access through a single click and a

seamless system.

In addition to having direct access to

government entities websites via the

portal, it can also be used for other

purposes such as ordering a taxi,

and obtaining maps for the nearest

service offices.
