The Validation Gateway (VG) project
launched by Emirates Identity Authority
(Emirates ID) mid 2011 is a vital project
for infrastructure development. This
project is part of the digital identity project
completed by Emirates ID. The project is
particularly important as it supports the
transition into a secure digital
economy. The project allows
the verification of identity
of card holders when
conducting
online
transactions
in
a secure and
reliable
manner
by using
digital
certificates, fingerprints or pin code of ID
card.
Emirates ID launched this project as part
of its ongoing efforts to simplify the usage
of the ID card and its digital certificates in
a way that enables government agencies
and individuals to use the Emirates ID
card to conduct transactions online.
The VG offers a wide variety of digital
functionality related to the Emirates
ID card. Users and organizations can
(after approval from EIDA) without any
programming knowledge and without
being a cryptographic expert connect
to the VG and benefit from its many
functionalities to perform online services
where the Emirates ID cards are used for
authentication and signing. The Emirates
ID as the single ID, both physically and
digitally, will enhance and secure services
online.
The Emirates ID stated that the VG would
will not only improve effectiveness as the
need of paper copies will be eliminated
and information will be easier and more
securely available but it would also
enhance security and accuracy of the
transactions as the Emirates ID card
would be the single trusted source for
user data.
Government agencies and corporate
organizations could now make use of
the infrastructure of the Emirates ID card
and Validation Gateway to offer more
services online and thereby improve their
own processes as well as provide better
services for their citizens and customers.
The VG contributes in facilitating business
processes by providing a single and
reliable source of data, thus encouraging
government agencies, and online service
providers in the public and private sectors
to use it. The VG enhances the increase
of online services each day, making them
more available and accessible to ID card
holders, while providing higher levels of
security and significantly reducing risks of
fraud and identity theft.
